GREELEY, Colo. — Colorado’s status as a top sunflower producer in the United States is falling, and experts wonder if the crop will ever make a full comeback.

The state’s total sunflower production was 55 million pounds in 2012, down about 55 percent from the year before.

The continuing drought last year took a big toll on production.
