The Dorcas Society is hosting an evening of wine tasting as a fundraiser and as the first opportunity to observe its 100th anniversary in Dickinson.

The event is from 6-8 p.m. on Thursday, April 16, at the Dickinson Elks Lodge.

Dorcas is limiting the event to the sale of 200 advance tickets. By limiting tickets, members can wait on guests in a more personal way and it allows greater mobility for people to taste wines, said member Gail Ebeltoft.

For an additional $10, guests may sample wines in Riedel glasses at the ultra-premium wine table.

“You are able to taste super premium wines provided by the Ponderosa and take the wine glass home with you,” said Sue Moore.

Along with table wines, guests will sample hors d’oeuvres including cream puffs filled with curried chicken salad or ham, antipasto sausage skewers, sunflower seed flats, creamy brie and roasted garlic pesto spread for the sunflower seed flats, and domino bread —a crisp baguette bread filled with ham, salami, cheese and pimiento.

The dessert tray includes key lime and strawberry tarts, lemon cooler cookies and sweet treats — bite-sized servings of a salty cracker topped with nutella and white chocolate shavings.

“It’s a unique way to support an excellent cause. We’re looking to attract young people and couples who enjoy wines, versus our traditional tea for those who were available in the afternoon,” said Moore.

In keeping with the 100th anniversary, members are decorating the room with vases of flowers and shimmering lights.

Dorcas Society member Dorathy Schmidt also spearheaded a committee to publish a collection of recipes titled “The Dickinson Dorcas Society Cookbook — A Taste of Tradition.”

Collecting Dorcas recipes for years, Schmidt said, “It was in my brain when I became president.”

The cookbook will be on sale throughout the evening.

Tickets are available from the members, the Elks Club and Ponderosa Liquor and Wildlife Gallery.
