Fence repair work appears to be the cause of a grass fire that burned eight hay bales Monday, according to the Jamestown (N.D.) Rural Fire Department.

The department was called out at 12:11 p.m. to the Jamestown Livestock Company to take care of eight burning hay bales.

JRFD Assistant Chief Brian Paulson said five trucks and 13 firefighters responded to the scene. Paulson said the fire most likely started by a torch workers were using during fence repairs on one of the cattle pens.

Damage from the fire was estimated at $400. No injuries were reported. The firefighters were on scene for about an hour.
