Weed Resistance in the northern plains is an accident waiting to happen

Glyphosate weed resistance is a growing problem within the region, as Dr. Jeff Stachler weed specialist at NDSU has documented.

Glyphosate weed resistance is a growing problem within the region, as Dr. Jeff Stachler weed specialist at NDSU has documented.  How can farmers manage weed resistance now in order to preserve glyphosate – one of our most powerful tools? And how can weed management preserve other tools, such as glyphosate-tolerant sugar beet seed?

On March 8 from 9:30 a.m. to noon, Peterson Farms Seed and Bayer CropScience will host the Northern Weed Resistance Forum at the Fargo Holiday Inn, 3803 13th Ave. S. Some of the most knowledgeable weed experts in the midwest will discuss the status of glyphosate weed resistance and management practices to control its continued spread.

Dr. Bryan Young, Weed Specialist from Southern Illinois University, will explain the current situation in his part of the midwest, where resistance problems are about three years ahead of the northern plains. Stachler will then explain what he has seen and what the future holds for this part of the world.

The meeting is free and open to the public. Registration will be conducted at the door. Lunch will follow the session.
