Minnesota 4-Hers from 87 counties exhibited 3,246 projects that were judged in the 4-H Building at the 2009 Minnesota State Fair. The 4-Hers all placed high at their county fairs with their projects, thereby earning them the top honor of showing at the State Fair this year. Minnesota 4-Hers also exhibited and rode their horses in the State Horse Show this year.
Lake County had 17 members exhibiting on Aug. 30 through Sept. 1.
Winning purple ribbons for Lake County, the highest honor at the fair, were Lane Schraufnagel in digital photography and Mason Schraufnagel in aerospace.
Others at the State Fair earning ribbons were: Savannah Juenemann, blue ribbon in veterinary science; Andrea Libby, red in needle arts; Meghan Selhorst, blue in home environment; Emily Reimer, blue in digital photography; Danielle Miller, blue in fine arts; Adam Selhorst and Sam Hull, blues in metal shop science; Ashley Swensen and Hannah Johnson, blues in self-determined; Michaela Strom, blue in food and nutrition; Jakkie Ostman, white in fishing sports; Kylie Cole, red in wildlife biology; Anna Cashman, participation in fashion review; Lilly Hauger, blue in food review; and Jenny Faughnan, blue in exploring animals.
Placing in the State Horse Show from Lake County were: Caitlin Anderson, fourth in western showmanship-pleasure type, ninth in western pleasure-pleasure type, and sixth in jumping figure-eight; Meghan Selhorst, fourth in western showmanship-pleasure type and Grand Entry rider; Jakkie Ostman, ninth English showmanship, 10th poles; Beth Bergman, Danielle Miller, first-year participants. The group of five finished fourth in herdsmanship.
