GRAND FORKS, N.D. — Free french fries are on the menu in Grand Forks as officials and residents make their annual attempt to eclipse their own record.

The event dubbed the “World's Largest French Fry Feed” is being held Thursday in University Park. It's held annually during Potato Bowl week in Grand Forks, which celebrates the potato industry in the Red River Valley. This week's events culminate Saturday with a University of North Dakota football game against Black Hills State at the Alerus Center.

The J.R. Simplot Co., which has a french fry plant in Grand Forks, supplies the spuds for the annual feed. The record was set in 2008, when 4,890 pounds of fries were served.
