FULTON, S.D. — A proposed 7,000-head dairy is one step closer to being built in Hanson County despite opposition from some local residents.
Michael Crinion, of Hanson County Dairy Developers, recently received verbal approval for a water permit application from the state Water Management Board, pending a fact-finding pursuit. The dairy is proposed to be located two miles northeast of Fulton.
But Rep. Stace Nelson, a Republican from Fulton, says he is worried the dairy could contaminate water supply and become a big problem for the county.
A group of citizens worried about the project's progression have formed a group called The Concerned Citizens of Hanson County.
Representatives from the dairy will appear before the board in early October in Pierre.
