SIOUX FALLS, S.D. — South Dakota farmers have wrapped up the planting of row crops, and a week of mostly warm and dry weather in some areas allowed them to do other work such as cutting hay and spraying corn fields.
The Agriculture Department says in its latest crop and weather report that farmers in areas hit with storms have been busy repairing fences and roads and assessing damaged fields.
The report says livestock seem to be dealing well with heat, insects and wet conditions. Eight-nine percent of cattle and 83 percent of sheep in South Dakota are rated good to excellent. Pasture conditions also are mostly in those categories.
