Wolves kill horse on southwestern Montana ranch

DARBY, Mont. — Wildlife officials are trying to capture at least two wolves they say were responsible for the death of a horse on a ranch near Darby in southwestern Montana.

DARBY, Mont. — Wildlife officials are trying to capture at least two wolves they say were responsible for the death of a horse on a ranch near Darby in southwestern Montana.

KECI-TV in Missoula reports authorities set traps on the Two Feathers Ranch after getting a call about the attack Friday. Investigators say the wolves chased the quarter horse through a fence where in suffered internal injuries. The horse was found dead a few yards away and the wolves had been feeding on it.

Ranch owner Paul Shirley says the horse was one of 13 on the ranch, and the remaining horses have been skittish since the attack.
