WEST FARGO, N.D. — The Greg and Shannan Stanke family has become the poster child of the lingering flooding outside the Fargo-Moorhead-West Fargo metropolitan area.
The family for more than a month has been fighting overland flooding from the Sheyenne River. They've been forced to relocate their horses. Emergency crews and volunteers have responded five times to help them raise levees.
On Monday they had a garage fire, and firefighters couldn't reach the blaze with hoses. Greg Stanke had to boat them over to the scene, where they used fire extinguishers to put out the blaze.
Shannan Stanke tells The Forum newspaper that the home is a perfect location for the family and they “absolutely love it.” But she says they'd sell it in a heartbeat.
