More interest in SD shuttle-train-loading facility

KIMBALL, S.D. — A second group has come forward with a proposal to build a grain-loading facility at Kimball that would feed 110-car shuttle trains.

KIMBALL, S.D. — A second group has come forward with a proposal to build a grain-loading facility at Kimball that would feed 110-car shuttle trains.

The city council passed a resolution this week authorizing the potential sale of its grass-strip airport to Rapid City-based Dakota Mill and Grain. Company executive Brian Hammerbeck declined to go into details, but told The Daily Republic newspaper that it wants to build a grain shuttle facility at Kimball.

A separate group of investors is working on its plan to build a shuttle-train-loading facility about six miles east of Kimball.

Key to both proposals is a plan to rebuild the state-owned railroad line that runs past Kimball. A state official says bids for that work will be opened Monday.
