BISMARCK, N.D. — North Dakota’s House has taken its cue from a group of second graders and decided the ladybug should be the state insect.

BISMARCK, N.D. — North Dakota’s House has taken its cue from a group of second graders and decided the ladybug should be the state insect.

Representatives voted 88-6 on Thursday to approve the bill. It now goes to the North Dakota Senate for its review.

A group of second-grade students from Kenmare in northwestern North Dakota asked Kenmare state Rep. Glen Froseth to introduce the legislation.

During a House speech Thursday, Fargo Rep. Thomas Beadle called them the Legislature’s cutest group of lobbyists.

Beadle says other states have the ladybug as the state insect. But he says North Dakota is the only state to list a ladybug species that is native to North America.
