NEW HAMPTON, Iowa — Friends and neighbors have joined to help an Ionia family harvest their 150 acres of corn after the death of farmer Reggie Nelson.

Nelson died in September in a motorcycle crash in Minnesota, after he planted his corn crop in New Hampton. KWWL-TV in Waterloo reports that it took his friends and neighbors two hours and 45 minutes using six combines and five grain carts to harvest the crop.

Nelson’s wife, Carolyn Nelson, says she never worried about the harvest because she knew the community would help. Carolyn Nelson also says she appreciates all the effort.

Business owners in New Hampton and Ionia donated lunch and money for fuel. New Hampton is about 40 miles north of Waterloo in northeastern Iowa.
