Rain and cool weather slows Nebraska field work

LINCOLN, Neb. — Recent rain and cool temperatures have slowed crop development in Nebraska.

But the U.S. Department of Agriculture says the first fields of soybeans have been harvested, and the corn harvest is gaining momentum in eastern Nebraska.

The corn crop rated 83 percent good or excellent condition, which is better than last year. And about 5 percent of the corn harvest is complete.

About 79 percent of the soybean crop is in good or excellent condition. That’s about even with last year.

Winter wheat seeding is about 51 percent done. That’s ahead of the average of 45 percent.
