DICKINSON, N.D. — Stark County has more than doubled its fee for cutting weeds, from $200 a mile to $500 a mile.

DICKINSON, N.D. — Stark County has more than doubled its fee for cutting weeds, from $200 a mile to $500 a mile.

County Road Superintendent Al Heiser told The Dickinson Press that the goal is to discourage landowners from leaving the task up to the county. He says it can cost the county more than the $200 fee in some instances.

County Auditor Alice Schulz says people who own land next to county roads must have the weeds cut by Oct. 1 or the county cuts them so they don’t impede snow removal during the winter.
