WEST FARGO, N.D. - Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack will be a special guest
at the 30th Annual Big Iron Farm Show. Vilsack has accepted an invitation
from the Red River Farm Network to participate in a question and answer
session at RRFN's Issues and Events Center Tuesday, September 14th. The
one-hour seminar begins at 11:30 a.m.
"It's a great honor having him come to our community and I applaud the Red
River Farm Network for going out and securing that for us. We really, really
appreciate that," said Bryan Schulz, Big Iron Farm Show Manager.
The forum will be moderated by RRFN farm broadcasters and there will be an
opportunity for the public to participate. According to RRFN farm
broadcaster Don Wick, there is no shortage of topics that could be
addressed.
"This is an exciting time in agriculture and we're pleased Secretary
Vilsack will be a part of our program. We'll focus on farm policy and
pocketbook issues," said Wick.
Vilsack was appointed by President Barack Obama as the 30th Secretary of the
U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) and sworn into office on January 21,
2009. Prior to his appointment, Vilsack served two terms as the Governor of
Iowa.
This is the second time in three years the agriculture secretary was part of
the Red River Farm Network Issues and Events Center schedule. In 2008,
Agriculture Secretary Ed Schafer participated in the RRFN program at the Big
Iron Farm Show. The Red River Farm Network Issues and Events Center is
located between the Agriculture and Commercial Buildings on the Red River
Valley Fairgrounds, West Fargo, ND.
