USDA: 22 percent of Nebraska wheat crop harvested

LINCOLN, Neb. — Rain and wet fields slowed the wheat harvest in western Nebraska last week.

LINCOLN, Neb. — Rain and wet fields slowed the wheat harvest in western Nebraska last week.

The U.S. Department of Agriculture said Monday in its weekly Nebraska weather and crops report that the state harvest was 22 percent complete by Sunday, compared with the 47 percent average by the date.

The USDA says the rain and the mild temperatures helped corn development as the crop entered pollination. Roughly 86 percent of the state’s corn crop was rated in good or excellent condition.

The soybean crop was rated 80 percent good or excellent, and oats were rated 91 percent good or excellent.
