BISMARCK, N.D. — A North Dakota program that enables residents to dispose of unusable pesticides safely and for free will hold collections at 12 sites this month, starting Wednesday in New England.

Project Safe Send is funded by fees pesticide manufacturers pay to register their products in North Dakota. Over the past 20 years, more than 2 million pounds of herbicides, insecticides, rodenticides and fungicides have been collected and shipped out of state to be destroyed.

Agriculture Commissioner Doug Goehring says the program is open to anyone, not just farmers.

List of times and sites.
