WICHITA, Kan. — A group of grain buyers from Brazil got a first-hand look at the winter wheat harvest in western Kansas.

Kansas Wheat Commissioner Richard Randall and other Scott County farmers gave harvest demonstrations Thursday for the South Americans.

Randall says the visit turned out to be well-timed. The crop in that part of Kansas has test weights of 60 to 63 pounds per bushel and protein values of more than 12 percent. Harvest in the area is 60 to 70 percent finished.

The industry trade group Kansas Wheat says in its daily update that the harvest is about one-third complete in Wallace and Logan counties.
