WEST FARGO, N.D. — Chickens are not welcome in West Fargo.
The City Commission on Monday night rejected a proposed ordinance change that would have allowed residents to keep up to four hens in backyard coops, with the consent of surrounding neighbors.
City residents Justin and Ashley Morken had asked for the change to advocate sustainable living. They cited other cities that have similar ordinances promoting urban agriculture, including Fargo and Grand Forks.
Many other West Fargo residents objected to the idea, saying farm animals should stay on farms.
