Arkansas teen spurns limo, uses tractor for prom ride

BRADFORD, Ark. — Driving a special vehicle for the high school prom has become a common practice for teenagers, but the special ride Michael Smith Jr. used to pick up his date didn’t have to be rented from a limousine agency.

BRADFORD, Ark. — Driving a special vehicle for the high school prom has become a common practice for teenagers, but the special ride Michael Smith Jr. used to pick up his date didn’t have to be rented from a limousine agency.

Smith showed up in the driveway of Destiny Metcalf’s home for their prom date driving a family farm tractor.

Destiny said that, with a little help, she had no problem climbing into the tractor’s cab in her prom dress.

“His sister had to help me up there,” Destiny said.

Michael said only he and his date knew ahead of time that their transportation April 10 would be a bit unusual.

“I’ve farmed all my life and I’ve always been on one, and nobody’s ever come to the prom in a tractor,” Michael said. “It seemed like the right thing to do.”
