Enzi, Barrasso push to end farm funds waste

CHEYENNE, Wyo. — Wyoming U.S. Sens. Mike Enzi and John Barrasso are asking President Barack Obama to make sure farm payments reach the farmers who need them most.

CHEYENNE, Wyo. — Wyoming U.S. Sens. Mike Enzi and John Barrasso are asking President Barack Obama to make sure farm payments reach the farmers who need them most.

The two Republicans joined with two Senate Democrats in sending a letter to Obama on Wednesday about the government’s farm program rules.

The letter says the Obama administration has failed to ensure that program payments are targeted toward actively engaged, bona fide farmers.

Enzi and Barrasso say the current rules from the program leave too much room for possible abuse and fraud.

They note past examples of abuse include 11 out-of-state partners in a joint venture each qualifying for about $90,000 in farm payments because they merely participated in conference calls.
