The Federal Elbe was officially the first ‘saltie’ to arrive this year when it pulled into the port Wednesday. The ship, which left Italy in March, is truly an international endeavor. The China-built ship is operated by a Canadian company, has a captain from Poland, crew members from the Phillipines and will carry Midwestern wheat harvested from 26,000 acres.

The Duluth News Tribune says the Twin Ports shipped about 2 million tons of grain last year.
