Wet ground in northeast SD

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. — More than one-third of South Dakota reports too much soil moisture.

Some of the wettest ground is in the northeast, where precipitation since October is 8 inches above normal at Clear Lake and 7.6 inches above normal at Sisseton.

Precipitation the past six months is more than 5 inches above normal at Porcupine and at Yankton.

The weekly crop report from the USDA shows that only Buffalo and Rapid City are below normal in precipitation since October.

Statewide, soil moisture is 38 percent surplus, 60 percent adequate, and 2 percent short.
