MITCHELL, S.D. — A study of farms in South Dakota’s Farm-Ranch Business Management Program finds an average increase in net profit of 6.4 percent from 2008 to 2009.

The management program is overseen by Mitchell Technical Institute at Mitchell.

Average net farm profit of enrolled farmers increased from $112,390 in 2008 to $119,570 in 2009.

Farm management instructor Roger DeRouchey says net farm profit represents money earned from the farm before business expansion, loan principal payments and family living expenses are paid.
