FARGO, N.D. — Potato stocks in North Dakota are down 14 percent from a year ago and 13 percent from 2008.

The Agriculture Department says the amount of potatoes held by growers, dealers and processors in the state on March 1 stood at 7 million hundredweight — the lowest March 1 level in 21 years.
Current stocks represent 37 percent of production.
Nationwide, potato stocks on March 1 stood at 170 million hundredweight — up 11 percent from last year and up 4 percent from 2008.
