This “doctored” apple kuchen recipe uses a boxed mix cake as its base.
Easy Apple Kuchen
1 box yellow cake mix
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1 egg
1 cup sour cream
4 tablespoons butter, melted
TOPPING:
3 to 4 apples, peeled and sliced Zc-inch thick
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
½ cup sugar
4 tablespoons butter, melted
Heat oven to 350 degrees. Grease 9-by-13-inch or 10-inch springform pan Place dry cake mix, cinnamon, egg, sour cream and butter in large mixing bowl. Beat on low just long enough to make thick dough. Press by hand into pan, pushing evenly over bottom and partway up to sides. Bake 10 minutes.
Meanwhile, toss sliced apples with cinnamon and sugar. Remove cake from oven and arrange apple slices decoratively on top. Sprinkle cinnamon sugar on top, drizzle on melted butter and bake 30 minutes more.
Yield: Serves 20.
