Kansas wheat crop faring well so far this winter

WICHITA, Kan. — Kansas Agricultural Statistics Service has released a mostly upbeat assessment of the state’s winter wheat crop.

WICHITA, Kan. — Kansas Agricultural Statistics Service has released a mostly upbeat assessment of the state’s winter wheat crop.

The agency on Monday rated winter wheat condition as 8 percent excellent and 48 percent good. Another 33 percent of the crop was in fair condition. It estimated 11 percent was in poor to very poor shape.

The agency also said about 71 percent of the winter wheat showed no freeze damage what-soever. About 22 percent suffered light damage and 5 percent showed moderate damage. Just 2 percent of the crop suffered severe freeze damage.
