BISMARCK — Former North Dakota governor and U.S. agriculture secretary Ed Schafer is being inducted into the state's Agriculture Hall of Fame.

Schafer was North Dakota's governor from 1992 to 2000. He served as agriculture secretary from January 2008 to January 2009. He is the only North Dakotan to serve in the federal post.

Two other people also are going into the hall in March during the North Dakota Winter Show in Valley City.

The late Eugene Dahl helped develop several farm equipment companies, including Bobcat and Steiger. The late Armand Bauer established the first soil testing lab at North Dakota State University, in 1955.
