Chester Creek concerts, senior fun and outdoor movies

Duluth Parks and Recreation have lots to offer everyone this summer, from senior activities to free outdoor movies and concerts at Chester Creek. Complete listing of concerts and movies included.

Start making your plans to join some of Parks and Recreation’s exciting offerings.

Families, kids and seniors have the opportunity to take part in a variety of activities, including outdoor music concerts and the popular Movies in the Park series.

Duluth’s Parks and Recreation division invites all seniors to join our recreational opportunities for seniors.

Activities are offered at Evergreen, Morgan Park and Portman community recreation centers.

Among the offerings are quilting, wood shop, bridge, cribbage, bingo, crafts and more.

AEOA senior dining meals are also served at 11:30 a.m. at these centers. Activities are scheduled before and after lunch time, offering a come-and-eat, stay-and-play attitude.

Visit the Morgan Park Community Recreation Center at 1242 88 Ave. W., Evergreen Senior Center at 5830 Grand Ave. and the Portman Community Recreation Center at 4601 McCulloch St. All centers are open Monday through Friday.

An open invitation is extended to interested people who want to establish new card groups/exercise classes or music groups who want to rehearse and/or volunteer to perform. For more information, call Theresa at 730-4307 or 390-4971.

Free concerts

If it’s music you love, then bring the whole family to our outdoor concerts.

The Chester Creek Concerts kick off June 2, at 7 p.m. with music by power-folk group Sweet Grass. Admission is free, per usual.

Everyone is encouraged to bring lawn chairs for seating, while enjoying the beautiful outdoor setting of Chester Bowl at 1801 E. Skyline Parkway. Concerts will be held throughout the summer at the same time on Tuesdays from June 2 through Aug. 4. Following is a complete list of concerts planned:

• June 9 - Rock-A-Billy Revue (country)

• June 16 - Fish Heads (bluegrass)

• June 23 - Bill and Kate Isles (acoustic)

• June 30 - Pot Bellied Stallions (variety) (pictured)

• July 7 - McInnis’ Kitchen (Irish)

• July 14 - Mark Sowl (variety)

• July 21 - Busterville (blues)

• July 28 - Park Avenue (variety)

• Aug. 4 - Sh-Boom (’50s and ’60s show band)

• Aug. 11 - Rain date

Movies galore

From lovable pandas and venturing hobbits to Superman and exotic travel, don’t miss out on this summer’s lineup of free movies shown at Leif Erikson Park.

Twin Ports Outdoor Movies and Duluth’s Parks and Recreation division proudly kick off their fourth summer season June 19, bringing to life one of our area’s premier summer activities.

Just grab a blanket and join family, friends and neighbors and sit back, relax and enjoy the show under the stars.

Each movie starts approximately 15 minutes after sunset and sparkles on a mammoth 40-by-20-foot screen.

This one-of-a-kind outdoor cinema experience is open to the public.

Food and beverages are available on-site (alcoholic beverages are prohibited in Leif Erikson Park).
