Health department confirms 3 swine flu cases in Wisconsin
MADISON, Wis. (AP) — The state health department says the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has confirmed three cases of swine flu in Wisconsin.
They are the state’s first confirmed cases of the disease.
Two cases are from Milwaukee County, and the third is from Adams County.
A statement from the state Department of Health Services says the cases were announced as probable on Wednesday but not confirmed by the CDC until today.
The state has announced 11 other probable cases as well, although local health officials have put the number much higher.
The state health department said Friday it had submitted a total of 389 samples for testing. Of those, 243 tested negative and 132 were pending. Updated numbers are expected today.
