Grass fire follows N.D. snow, floods
After heavy snow and major flooding, North Dakota faces grass fire season.By: Associated Press,
MANDAN, N.D. — After heavy snow and major flooding, North Dakota faces grass fire season.
Mandan rural fire crews were called Tuesday afternoon to a fire along the Missouri River bottoms. It was large enough to call out seven fire trucks and two tankers. There were no reports of injuries.
Mandan Rural Fire Chief Lynn Gustin estimates about 250 acres burned as the fire spread into wooded river bottom areas.
Gustin says that despite flooding in the area, a lot of dead growth from last year is “bone dry” on top. He says the fire danger will persist until the vegetation turns green.
