N.D. seeks help for ranchers with power outages

North Dakota is seeking federal help for ranchers affected by power outages from the Good Friday snow storm.

BISMARCK (AP) — North Dakota is seeking federal help for ranchers affected by power outages from the Good Friday snow storm.

Gov. John Hoeven and Agriculture Commissioner Doug Goehring (GOHR'-ing) on Monday asked the federal Agriculture Department to provide help through its Emergency Assistance for Livestock, Honeybees, and Farm-Raised Fish Program.

The officials say many ranchers have had to buy and operate electrical generators to get by.

Hoeven earlier requested a presidential disaster declaration, which would bring in federal aid to help with electrical infrastructure repair costs. Members of North Dakota's congressional delegation on Monday said they were urging President Barack Obama to quickly approve the request.
