FARGO, N.D. (AP) — The North Dakota Soybean Council has approved $815,000 in research money for fiscal 2011.
The popularity of soybeans has grown in North Dakota in recent years, with acres now approaching 4 million.
Production set a state record in 2006 at 122 million bushels. Last year's production of 116 million bushels was the second-highest in history.
The council says that as the crop has grown in North Dakota, the challenges associated with pests, diseases and market development also have increased.
