FARGO, N.D. (AP) — Potato stocks in North Dakota are down 14 percent from both a year ago and from 2008.
The Agriculture Department says the amount of potatoes held by growers, dealers and processors in the state on Jan. 1 stood at 10.8 million hundredweight — the lowest Jan. 1 level in 21 years.
Current stocks represent 56 percent of production.
Nationwide, potato stocks on Jan. 1 stood at 235 million hundredweight — up 10 percent from last year and up 1 percent from 2008.
