A semi-trailer broke loose from a semi Monday, spilling corn and sustaining $5,000 in damage, according to the Stutsman County Sherriff’s Office.

Allen Schlenker, 72, Montpelier, N.D., was driving a 1986 Peterbuilt east on 47th Street Southeast southwest of Ypsilanti, N.D., around 9 p.m. Monday.

He had slowed to make a right hand turn onto 88th Avenue S.E., deputies said, and got too far to the left. The left front tire fell in the ditch and Schlenker accelerated to pull the vehicle out of the ditch.

The semi-trailer broke loose from the semi and rolled onto the left side in the left ditch.

Schlenker was not wearing a seat belt. No injuries were reported.

No citations were issued.
