FARGO (AP) — The Agriculture Department says North Dakota farmers produced an estimated 8.36 million hundredweight of dry edible beans this year, down 17 percent from 2008.
The drop is due to fewer acres and lower yields.
Pintos account for nearly three-fourths of the production.
North Dakota’s record bean production was in 2007, when farmers produced 10.8 million hundredweight.
Nationwide, dry edible bean production this year is forecast at 25.2 million hundredweight, 1 percent below 2008.
