Baby goat 'GusGus' kidnapped from petting zoo at Arizona State Fair
GusGus was with his mother late on Wednesday afternoon when he was snatched by someone who apparently reached over a low fence at the Phoenix event's popular petting zoo, fair officials said.
The little goat, who weighs no more than 5 pounds (2.3 kg), was maybe hidden under the thief's jacket, or even in a purse, officials said.
"He is accustomed to being touched, so he wouldn't scream his little head off when someone picked him up," said Karen Searle, the fair's livestock director.
Security and state troopers were alerted, she said, but the goat was gone.
Searle said no questions would be asked if GusGus were returned safe and well to the state fairgrounds. The kid's mother has been crying since they were parted, she added.
"Like any infant, he needs to be with his mother," Searle said. "If he is not returned, the odds that he won't make it are really, really very high."
