Pro bull riders in Binford

BINFORD, N.D. (AP) — The tiny town of Binford is hosting the nation’s top professional bull riders this weekend.

The Professional Bull Rider tour event Saturday night will boost the eastern North Dakota town’s population from about 200 to about 2,000.

The bull riding event at Binford grew from a tradition of rodeo in the community. Tod LaPlant with the Binford Rodeo Association says the town has had rodeos for a half century, but it’s easier to draw people to an event that features just bull riding.

One of the main reasons the top cowboys are coming to Binford is the stock contractor for the show. Mandan’s Chad Berger has won the PBR’s Stock Contractor of the Year award two years running.
