Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack said in Phoenix Feb. 27 that even though Congress has said he can’t use one U.S. Department of Agriculture program to subsidize blender pumps, he will use a wide array of other programs to help the ethanol industry, as well as promote ethanol exports for the first time and express his views on the Renewable Fuel Standard to the Environmental Protection Agency and the White House.
Lobbyists opposed to mixing more ethanol in gasoline scored another victory on Wednesday after the U.S. House of Representatives passed a farm bill with a provision removing subsidies for biofuel blending pumps in rural areas.
Ethanol is important in west central Minnesota and across rural America.
That is why it is critical for all citizens to take time to write letters to the federal Environmental Protection Agency by Tuesday, citing their opposition to its proposal to reduce the nation’s Renewable Fuel Standard by 10 percent or 1.4 billion gallons in 2014.

A group of U.S. Senators introduced a bill on Thursday to eliminate the corn ethanol mandate but leave other elements of biofuels policy intact, arguing that current law raises the cost of food and animal feed and damages the environment.
